Community Center Building Committee Project Update – May 14, 2023



Program Analysis & Development
ICON, PRD and COA/HS staff have made significant progress in scaling down the building program to include only proven program needs.  The original 2018 project, which included both program needs and wants, was approximately 23,000 sqft (plus another 7,000 sqft of renovated space for LEAP and the school maintenance program).  To date, we’ve scaled the building program down to just under 17,000 sqft, and continue to look for more efficiencies.  This will form the basis of the needs program, and is shaping up to become our 75% option (still including the other 7,000 sqft of renovated space for LEAP and school maintenance program).  From there, we can work out way down to a 50% option, and back up to a higher-end option.  This will all be explained during our next public meeting this Wednesday night, May 17 (Details below).

Site Planning
ICON continues to gather feedback from Hartwell Campus stakeholder (Parks and Recreation Department, Lincoln Public School Administration, LEAP and Magic Garden Preschool) about their outdoor needs – play spaces, paved surfaces, shade structures, etc.- in order to further refine their site plan ideas.  This will all contribute to a site plan presentation at our public forum on Tuesday, May 23(Details below)

Community Engagement
We have begun to set up meeting times with community organizations.  CCBC Admin will be meeting with the Planning Board this coming Tuesday Night at 7:00PM (details below), and ICON will be arranging other meetings with FOMA , the Lincoln Historical Commission, the Green Energy Committee, Lincoln Youth Soccer, Bemis Lecture Series, the Lincoln Garden Club, and the Lincoln METCO program. 

Satellite Programming
Our Decentralized Programming Inventory is available on the CCBC website, and part of our detailed analysis will include an assessment of how these public spaces may help manage the building program load.  

Tue May 16 – Planning Board Meeting with CCBC Admin, 7:00PM over Zoom to update them on our work to date.

Wed May 17th – Public Meeting 7:00pm in the Town Hall Donaldson Room or over Zoom to present a detailed version of our essential building program.  

Tue May 23rd – Public Forum, 7:00pm in the Hartwell Multi-Purpose Room or over Zoom to present potential Hartwell Campus site plans.

Wed May 31st – Public Meeting, 7:00pm in the Town Hall Donaldson Room or over Zoom to solicit additional public feedback on both the building program as well as the various site layouts.

Tue June 13th – Public Forum, 7:00pm in the Hartwell Multi Purpose Room or over Zoom to present draft building designs, and solicit feedback,  ICON will then spend the summer developing these designs further, so they’ll be ready for the next round of public review in the Fall.
